The 6th Annual Jon Henderson Beating Cancer Benefit
On Saturday October 10th The New Foundry in Boulder will host an all day music event to honor the memory of Jon Henderson and raise money for local cancer patients through The Rocky Mountain Cancer Center Foundation.
Jon Henderson, the founder of this event, lost his 9 year battle with cancer in April 2008. However, his inspiration and contributions live on and will be remembered once again through this event. Jon spent the last 2 years of his life writing, producing and directing the “BIG C” a 16 song CD and DVD Documentary. Jon wanted to prepare people for the cancer journey through music, so they can better understand the challenge of living with cancer. The “BIG C” CD doubles as the soundtrack for a DVD documentary which features real life perspectives from people living with cancer and their families.
Once again, some of Boulder’s best bands will perform to generate donations to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers Foundation. The Rocky Mountain Cancer Center Foundation (RMCCF) provides funding to cancer patients for bills and other unexpected expenses incurred as a result of their cancer and cancer treatment. Go to their web-site, http://www.RMCCF.org, to find out more about this wonderful charity

Maybe CD sales are down 20%, but out here on the long tail my Profile views and Plays are thought the roof!
10,000 plays in 10 months…..
That’s the power of the new social web. I don’t ever gig outside Boulder. Yet in 10 months I’ve had over 10,000 profiles views and 10,000 plays of my original music. I also have over 5,000 friends. That’s just amazing!

And my audience reach is both national and international. Look at my visitor’s from Europe! I need to go gig over there! Alright, I need to build one company and then I can go over there an gig for year!

BTW, Trakzor is a very cool way to track visitors to your MySpace page.

Ok this makes up for having Justin Timberlake on stage with Gates at CES. Justin is just a little too pop for me…..;-) Fripp is a wild man! Should be good!

Here’s yet another clear example of why the Big Label Music Business is in the death spiral – whether they want to believe or not. Could you imagine if GM put out a car that you could only drive on the highway – no back roads. How about a Hyatt vacation to Maui except you can’t use the beach – same price BTW. But the music industry can release a CD that blatantly restricts consumer “fair use” rights and expects it to be business as usual? How is this good for Coldplay, their fans, even the record labels?
If I was Coldplay I’d tell my record company to take flying leap. This will cost them significant sales. I know as a consumer there is no way I would ever purchase any CD with these restrictions. Everybody loses in this scenario – ironically the label does too!
To say these guys just don’t get it is the understatement of the century!
Boing Boing: Coldplay’s new CD has rules: No MP3s, no DVD players, no car stereos
Coldplay’s new CD comes with an insert that discloses all the rules enforced by the DRM they included on the disc. Of course, these rules are only visible after you’ve paid for the CD and brought it home, and as the disc’s rules say, “Except for manufacturing problems, we do not accept product exchange, return or refund,” so if you don’t like the rules, that’s toug

Grateful Dead backtracks on download ban | CNET News.com
Facing criticism from thousands of fans, the Grateful Dead appears to have backtracked on recent moves to deter people from trading free copies of concert recordings over the Internet. After consulting with the legendary jam band, a nonprofit group that distributes the group’s music online had restored the audience recordings for downloading and streaming on Thursday.
That’s the right thing to do. After all they are ones who invented live show sharing in the first place! IMHO that’s why they are so popular in the first place. They built a community around their live shows and with that a legacy and library that dwarfs all other artists!

That’s it? All the hoopla over the Apple iTunes phone and we get a max of 100 songs? That’s ridiculous!
Ok, that makes my next phone decision very easy – Win Mobile 5.0 – the HTC Tornado (aka the Qtek 8310).
iTunes phone will only hold 100 songs – Engadget – www.engadget.com
Even more iTunes phone details, if you can believe it: a source involved with making the commercials for the new
handset has confirmed for us that it will only hold 100 songs because Apple is worried about cannibalizing iPod shuffle
sales.
