iTunes phone will only hold 100 songs – Engadget – www.engadget.com

That’s it? All the hoopla over the Apple iTunes phone and we get a max of 100 songs? That’s ridiculous!

Ok, that makes my next phone decision very easy – Win Mobile 5.0 – the HTC Tornado (aka the Qtek 8310).

iTunes phone will only hold 100 songs – Engadget – www.engadget.com
Even more iTunes phone details, if you can believe it: a source involved with making the commercials for the new
handset has confirmed for us that it will only hold 100 songs because Apple is worried about cannibalizing iPod shuffle
sales.

A New Wireless Web Link (TechNews.com)

A New Wireless Web Link (TechNews.com)
The technology, known as EvDO (Evolution Data Only), provides wireless data connections that are 10 times as fast as a regular modem. Proponents say EvDO offers huge advantages over WiFi, another wireless data technology that is popping up around the country in hotel lobbies and coffee shops, and that it may even be the long sought path around local telephone and cable companies’ lock on the high-speed Internet market in most residential areas.

Interesting………

Google raising an additional $4B!

WSJ.com – Google Plans New Share Offer
Stock Sale Could Add $4 Billion
To Internet Giant’s Coffers
A WALL STREET JOURNAL ONLINE NEWS ROUNDUP
August 18, 2005 1:03 p.m.
Google Inc. plans to sell 14.2 million shares of Class A common stock, which at current market prices would raise more than $4 billion, according to a filing Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

While Google’s plans for the cash remain a mystery, the company left a clue that suggests the size of the offering wasn’t arbitrary.

$4 billion for what?

My blind speculation………;-)

The GEEKMOBILE – putting Windows XP in your car

J.P. Stewart – A new hobby: putting Windows XP in your car
Some cool stuff J.P. has already built into his car:1) RSS News Aggregator for receiving audio “Podcasts” (between the filming of this video and today, he built the software to do that).2) Integration with the new Streets and Trips 2005, so he always knows where he is, and how to get where he’s going.3) A cool Motorola cell phone that uses BlueTooth to keep him on the Internet whenever he’s near the car.4) A portable hard drive for playing his audio and video files.

You have to see the video!

How about a WIFI network in your car with always on Internet connectivity? It’s here!

Google Buys Android for Its Mobile Arsenal
Android (www.android.com) has operated under a cloak of secrecy, so little is known about its work. Rubin & Co. have sparingly described the outfit as making software for mobile phones, providing little more detail than that. One source familiar with the company says Android had at one point been working on a software operating system for cell phones…………..

WELL-KNOWN TALENT. In May, Google acquired Dodgeball, a mobile social-networking service. Using a wireless device, users can send a text message to their circle of friends, announcing that they will be at a certain coffee shop or hangout. In addition, users can be notified if friends-of-friends are within a certain vicinity. Google has not disclosed how it will incorporate the Dodgeball offering into its services…………..

Rubin isn’t the only well-known Silicon Valley veteran joining Google via Android. Others coming over include Andy McFadden, who worked with Rubin at WebTV before helping develop the all-in-one set-top box for Moxi Digital; Richard Miner, former vice-president of technology and innovation at telecom outfit Orange before joining Android; and Chris White, who spearheaded the design and interface for WebTV in the late 1990s, before helping to found Android……..

One of my old friends and colleagues from the Excite@Home’s set-top group, Jeff Huber, is also working at Google these days. Add this up with my previous post about Google.

Mmm, let’s see, mobile technology, location based, mobile social networking, TV/ video interface, IPTV, WiFI and Bandwidth. Google is building an ad supported mobile content distribution platform with content and apps. This will allow them to bypass the gatekeepers – Cable MSO’s, Telco Carriers, and all the other legacy media distribution systems and go direct to consumers with a service bundle of their own – WiFi, portable IPTV, Search, Social Networking, On Demand Content, VOIP…..

Ok, their stock is underpriced! I get it! ;-)

Google IPTV and Free ad-based WIFI network! WOW!

GoogleNet—massive Google WiFi in the works? – Engadget – www.engadget.com
Suddenly Google local (and maps, and video, and so on) makes so much more sense—Business 2.0 reports that they’ve learned from “telecom insiders” that Google is hard at work on a nation-wide high-capacity data network, buying up unused fiber lines and cheap backbone access to really flesh out their capacity. B2 theorizes this could result in a massive digital video db, on-demand television (IPTV) system, or free ad-based WiFi network, which in conjunction with location tracking hotspot firm Feeva, has already been pilot launched in San Francisco serving up Google Local-based ads. Could Google really power not just Internet search, but a sizable portion of the Internet? Beats us, but if they want to make it happen, they better get that AdSense click fraud thing sorted out asap.

Wow, that would be the end run play of all time either way! Google IPTV or Free ad-based WiFi!
